Getting started

EspansoExpress is contained within a single EXE file (EspansoExpress.exe). On first run it creates an INI file (EspansoExpress.ini), which is a plain text file that stores various settings such as active folder, app theme and window state. EspansoEdit is packaged with EspansoExpress to provide an enhanced text-based view of YML files as required. It can also be used to edit Espanso config files. It is not recommended to edit the same YML files with both EspansoExpress and EspansoEdit (or any other text editor).

EspansoExpress is written for the Windows platform. The program runs on Windows versions 7 to 11. It has not been tested with older Windows versions.

If you are using a high DPI screen you may need to adjust DPI scaling.

There are two options for download of EspansoExpress.

  1. ZIP file containing EspansoExpress.exe and EspansoEdit.exe

After downloading the ZIP file you extract EspansoExpress.exe and EspansoEdit.exe to your preferred folder, and then run EspansoExpress from there.

  1. ZIP file containing EXE installer file
The only files required to run EspansoExpress are EspansoExpress.exe and EspansoEdit.exe. However, an installer has been added to simplify the setup process. In contrast to the first option, this includes creation of shortcuts in the Start Menu and (optionally) on the Desktop. It also enables removal of the program from Add or remove programs in Windows Settings. The installer is provided in a ZIP file in order to reduce the chance of of a blocked download.
